Sending of mail items that contain dangerous articles is prohibited. Mail items containing dangerous articles will be returned to senders without any postage refund and the senders may be prosecuted for posting dangerous articles. Sender intending to post a returned mail item again shall ensure that it does not contain any dangerous articles and shall pay its full postage.
All mail items must pass the security check before dispatching to other destinations. It was observed that some articles which are not dangerous articles are difficult to be differentiated as their shapes or materials bear close resemblance to dangerous articles (including lithium batteries or flammable liquid) during x-ray screening. Hongkong Post may arrange items to be opened for further examination.
In order to reduce the chance of mail items not containing lithium batteries being rejected in the x-ray screening and required to be opened for further examination, senders should take note of the following points:
For security check and to facilitate inspection of mail items that are suspected to contain dangerous articles, senders who send mail items containing non-lithium battery must also take note of the following points:
Senders of Bulk Air Mail Service and Direct Agent Bag Service are required to pay attention to the above matters and mail items containing articles with close resemblance to dangerous articles (including lithium battery and flammable liquid) should be posted in separate bags as far as possible. Since mail sent via these services would be processed on bag level, Hongkong Post would not open any mail bags during mail processing. As such, the whole mail bag would be returned to the sender when it is rejected by screening. For enquiries, please call our 24-hour general enquiry hotline 2921 2222.
